Mixed feelings for Wison over Vase draw

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson had mixed feelings after his side were paired with Essex Senior League opposition in the next round of the FA Vase.

The Leslie Field side booked their spot in the second-round proper after a 3-1 success against Gorleston on Saturday.

It meant their name went into the hat for Monday’s draw. But rather than land a plum tie or face the intrigue of playing opposition they know little about, Ramblers were drawn at home to league rivals Bethnal Green United.

The Londoners are top of the table and recently won 3-2 at Burnham.

The sides are also midway through a League Cup second-round tie, with Bethnal Green holding a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg next Wednesday.

“On the plus side, it’s a home draw against opposition we know well,” said Wilson.

“We haven’t got anything to be frightened of and we’ve got to see it as an opportunity to progress.

“We both know each other well and, judging from how tight our matches have been this season, it should be a good game.

“If I’m honest, though, I would have liked to play someone new and different – just as we did against Gorleston on Saturday.

“It’s a national competition and part of the fun is playing sides you don’t normally play.

“Hopefully we can get through this tie and then maybe land a tie like that in the next round.”

Burnham travel to Eton Manor on Saturday in the league.
