BURNHAM Ramblers manager Keith Wilson says his club is “buzzing” after being paired with Southend United in the Essex Senior Cup.

The teams will meet in a third-round encounter at Roots Hall on or before November 3.

But rather than the tie being a distraction, Wilson wants his players to use it as an incentive for success.

“It’s a fantastic tie – the one everyone wanted,” said the Ramblers boss.

“But I’ve told the lads to forget about it for the time being, because we’ve got other important games to play between now and then.

“If anything, they need to use it as an incentive, to help us push on in the league and make sure they’re in my team that night.

“Not many players at our level get the chance to play under the lights at Roots Hall.

“As soon as the draw was made, my phone lit up with calls and text messages.

“It’s fantastic and the whole club is buzzing.”

The Ramblers players must have taken stock of Wilson’s words as they thrashed Haringey and Waltham Development 4-1, in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

However, they lost out 1-0 to visiting Bethnal Green United in the League Cup second round first leg match on Tuesday.
