Heybridge Swifts return to winning ways at the double

HEYBRIDGE Swifts have secured two wins on the trot.

Luke Callander's goal secured a 1-0 Ryman League division one north win at Waltham Forest on Wednesday night.

And Ben Newson was the two-goal hero as Swifts celebrated a 3-1 victory against neighbours Witham Town on Saturday at Scraley Road.

Newson’s double sandwiched an effort from Callander.

The victory ended a run of three straight defeats.

On Saturday, they head to third-placed Potters Bar Town and then next Tuesday Swifts make the long trip to Wroxham, for a League Cup tie. Meanwhile, the club have re-signed a couple of their former players.

Hard-tackling midfielder Andy Tomlinson, who made more than 130 appearances for them, is back on a one-month loan from AFC Hornchurch.

Danny Barber has also re-joined and made his comeback in the recent FA Trophy defeat at Carshalton Athletic.

He has made more than 350 appearances for Swifts, who were drawn away to Hullbridge Sports in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup last Thursday.

The tie must be played on or before November 3.
