Maldon and Tiptree are looking to avoid a banana skin

MALDON and Tiptree boss Terry Spillane wants his side to avoid a potential banana skin this weekend.

His high-flying team have a home date with Ryman League division one north basement boys Ware.

The Hertfordshire side only have two points from seven games and have lost all three of their matches away from Wodson Park.

Maldon kept their winning run going on Tuesday night when a second-half penalty from Chris Bryan secured a 1-0 win against visiting Ilford.

However, despite starting as red-hot favourites, Spillane insists his team will stay fully focused and take nothing for granted.

“We’ll keep our feet on the ground,” he said.

“Our mental approach will be very important and we’ve got to prepare just as we would for any game – just as we did for last week’s 3-0 win at Waltham Abbey. It’s a potential banana skin and vital we don’t slip up.

“But I’m confident that won’t be the case because we’ve got a lot of experienced players in our squad.

“They know the score and I’m not expecting any problems, although I’ll probably have a word with one or two of the younger ones.”
