Maldon and Tiptree manager Spillane gets his man
4:36pm Thursday 4th October 2012 in Local Sport
MALDON and Tiptree manager Terry Spillane has landed his top transfer target.
The Park Drive boss has completed the signing of defender Billy Sendall – his former player-of-the-year at both Stansted and Redbridge.
The 24-year-old, who can play at centre-half or full-back, had been unable to commit to playing this season because of work commitments.
But his schedule has now changed, paving the way for him to be reunited with his former boss at Maldon.
“I’m delighted because he was my number one target when I joined Maldon,” said Spillane.
“I was really disappointed when he said he wouldn’t be able to join, because there isn’t a team in our division or the one above that wouldn’t want him in their side.
“That’s how highly I rate him and he was my manager’s player-of-the-year at both Stansted and Redbridge.
“He’s a proper no-nonsense defender who wears his heart on his sleeve and would run through brick walls.
“When he phoned me this week to tell me his work schedule had changed, I was delighted.
“I couldn’t get round his house quick enough to get him to sign the registration forms.”
Sendall will be in Maldon’s squad for Saturday’s match at Waltham Abbey.
However, Spillane wants to assess his fitness before deciding whether he is ready to make the starting line-up.
The defender was due to train with his new team-mates last night and will play in an inter-club friendly tomorrow night, between the first team and reserves.
Sendall is Spillane’s second signing in recent days, having also moved to bring Frankie Everitt back to Park Drive.
Maldon are looking forward to getting back in action, at Capershots on Saturday.
They had no game last weekend, having already been knocked out of the FA Trophy.
