Burnham Ramblers boss Wilson is looking to lay down a marker

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson believes his side can lay down a marker this weekend.

The Leslie Field team face arguably their toughest test of the season at home to Bethnal Green United, in the Essex Senior League.

Saturday’s visitors are still unbeaten and recently took points off fancied pair Great Wakering Rovers and Takeley.

However, Wilson believes his own high-flying side should be full of confidence after a run that has fired them up to third in the table.

“If we can get a positive result at the weekend it will be a real boost and lay down a marker,” said Wilson.

“Bethnal Green are a very strong side and possibly the toughest we’ve faced so far.

“I’m sure they’d be higher in the table if they’d played more matches.

“They’re three points behind us with two games in hand, so we know that if we were to lose they’d be level.

“Obviously, we don’t want to let that happen.

“Instead, we want to not only maintain our lead over them but strengthen it, by getting three more points.

“We’ve got every reason to be confident and hopefully we can carry on where we left off in our last league game.

“If we can, it will give us a real platform to push on.”

Ramblers lost on the opening day of the season but have since been undefeated in five league games, most recently thumping London APSA 5-0.

They had no game last weekend but kept their strong form going in Tuesday night’s Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy second-round 3-0 win at Clapton.

Meanwhile, Wilson has confirmed the short-term signing of former Ramblers centre-half Marc Gorbell.
