MALDON Rugby Club's under-nines attended the Saracens Rugby Festival.

The team included Toby Wilson, Samuel Cummingham, Alex Jones, Emma Degiorgio, Cameron Hough, Archie Hill, Harry Lee, Owen Bardo, Freddie Beames and Freddy Delicata.

They played matches against Brighton, Hastings and Bexhill, Old Alleynians and a local derby against South Woodham Ferrers.

The first match was against Hastings and Bexhill and the team played some great rugby to secure a 4-3 win.

They then immediately played their second fixture against a developing Brighton team, where Maldon's experience showed as they ran out 5-1 winners.

Old Alleyanians were up next and Maldon were clinical in putting them to the sword with an impressive 6-3 win.

Lastly came the match that the children had been waiting for, against South Woodham Ferrers.

Maldon got off to a flyer with two quick tries.

It was a very physical match and the referee had to be on his toes to keep the tackles down low.

South Woodham picked up the pace and had Maldon on the back foot with some exceptional rugby.

However, Maldon held their nerve and did not give South Woodham a chance of edging in front, finishing the match as 4-3 winners.

All scores are unofficial as the RFU Kids First approach is to concentrate on core values, discipline, humility, workrate and honesty.

Maldon received excellent scores from the Saracens officials and were praised for their performance and behaviour on the day.

Both coaches and parents were immensely proud of their children's performances and they were treated to a fantastic display from Saracens v Bath that kicked-off after the festival.

n Maldon have organised a free Inner Warrior rugby camp to be held on Saturday, April 28, from 10am for under-17s and 12pm for over-17s.

This camp is being run by an RFU official coach.

There will be lots of freebies for all those that attend and will also have a draw to win a signed women Saracens shirt.
