MALDON and Tiptree boss Kevin Horlock believes their top-of-the-table clash with promotion rivals Cheshunt is a "massive" game for his side.

The Jammers are currently sitting pretty at the top of Ryman League division north, three points above the second-placed Ambers in the table ahead of this Saturday's big clash at Park Drive.

Maldon will head into the pivotal game with plenty of confidence, having racked up an eye-catching 11th home league win against Tilbury last weekend.

And boss Horlock wants his players to maintain their 100 per cent record on home turf and produce another winning performance.

Horlock said: "It's another massive game for us and Cheshunt had a comfortable win (last weekend).

"I think they'll be coming to us thinking that they'll be able to get something.

"But if we turn up and perform as well as we have done at home so far this season and with the right attitude and approach to the game, I'm hoping it'll be another good performance and hopefully another three points.

"We've been sensational at home - we're really pleasing on the eye going forward and on top of that, we've been really resolute at the back and kept clean sheets.

"I think we've got a bit of steeliness about us now.

"Earlier on in the season, we would have possibly conceded (against Tilbury) but we didn't do that.

"We're keeping clean sheets and that gives you a chance to win games, because we're always good going forward and we can score goals.

"We have a team of good players and on top of that, they're prepared to work really hard for each other."

Maldon's game against Cheshunt on Saturday will see them reach the halfway point of the season.

It has been an impressive first half of the campaign for the Jammers - but boss Horlock is taking nothing for granted.

"We've had a decent first half of the season but that's it," said Horlock, who took over from Steve Ball as Maldon manager last summer.

"There's a few teams up the top there who will see themselves winning it as well so the job is nowhere near done."

Maldon were impressive 3-0 winners over Tilbury, last weekend.

Rhys Henry, Tarryn Allarakhia and Sam Newson were all on target for the Jammers against a Dockers side that finished the game with only nine men, following two red cards in the second half.

Horlock said: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game.

"We'd already played them in the league and the cup and it was a bit of payback for us.

"We went 2-0 up at their place and ended up losing 3-2 and it still leaves a bit of a bitter taste in your mouth.

"I thought the lads went about their job very well and it's three points, three goals and a clean sheet so I can't complain!

"The second goal knocked the stuffing out of them a bit and I'm massively pleased, as it was always going to be a tough game for us."

Maldon will assess the fitness of key attacker Liam Nash, ahead of the Cheshunt clash.

He was substituted at half-time in the Maldon win with a tight hamstring.

Horlock added: "Nashy came off at Hornchurch with a tight hamstring last week and he said it was really tight at half-time (against Tilbury).

"We took him off as a precaution and we have good players on the bench, so there's no point in us risking him being out for three or four weeks."

Maldon will also check on the fitness of experienced defender Curtis Haynes-Brown, who missed the Tilbury win due to injury.
