DENGIE 100 Runner Steve Houghton travelled to Yorkshire's "Heartbeat" country for the Goathland half-marathon on Sunday.

The challenging course took the competitors through bogs and streams and included over 1,500ft of ascent.

Houghton finished in two hours and 27 minutes - a full 37 minutes slower than his road personal best (PB).

Sunday also saw the Stebbing ten-mile race, which starts at the village War Memorial and is preceded by a brief service of Remembrance.

The race begins with a one-mile loop around the village before heading out onto quiet country lanes and a one-mile section on a private farm track before finishing at Stebbing Primary School.

The club were represented by Richard Carvey (1h 28m 35s) and Wendy Simpson (1h 35m 17s).

Saturday's Maldon Parkrun saw the in-form Lydia Bazzard improve her PB to 21m 14s, followed by Wendy Aldridge (23m 12s), Carly Stevenson (24m 49s), Richard Aylen (26m 32s), Peter Skinner (28m 7s), Barbara McDonnell (28m 38s) and Sue Spiers (29m 51s).
