A LOVELY sunny morning greeted incoming lady captain Mel Lewis for her drive-in at Burnham Golf Club.

First it was the ladies' annual meeting and prizegiving for the season and then the official hand over.

New vice-captain Mary Hull had decided that Lewis, with a sailing background, should have a swashbuckling theme for her drive-in and so pirates were everywhere.

There was also a decorated buggy and wonderful outfit for captain Lewis, in addition to a newly-composed song from the ladies.

It was the traditional putt out on the 18th for outgoing captain Jane Hull and then the traditional drive-in on the first for Lewis.

She managed an excellent 157 yards.

This was then followed by a nine-hole Texas "Shambles" (an interesting twist to four ball better ball).

Every player had a chance to match Lewis’ shot on the first or tenth before teeing off.

Some high-quality golf was played judging by the excellent scores.

Results: Front nine: 1st Anne Mapes and Avis Greenaway 26 points, 2nd Helen Ford 25 OCB.

Back nine: 1st Liz Clark and Liz Culff 25 points, 2nd Jae Bray and Moira Roberts 23 OCB.

The second round of the Arthur West Seniors Winter League was played last Wednesday, after new captain Derrick Pearson had driven in.

There were two super scores, with Harry Hastwell managing 47 points and Seamus McGee 44.

There are four leagues and the top three in each go through in January to the Champions League, so it will be consistency in the next five competitions.

Saturday saw two sections of the club playing their annual match in a contest between The Bellies and The Boobies.

Ten pairs on either side played four ball better ball with a lot of banter and some tremendous golf.

Only two pairs scored less than 40 points and there was an outrageous 51 points from the men.

However, when it came to adding up the scores, the ladies had 427 points to 425 to the men and therefore a win for The Boobies.

In the Winter League B1, there were more great scores.

Dan Munro and Chris Roberts scored 43 points and brothers Matt and Rob Hawksworth 41.

In B2, Ryan and Andy Davies managed 44 and Richard Seabright and John Reynolds 41.
