BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT stormed into the FA Trophy second qualifying round after an astonishing 6-2 victory at Metropolitan Police.

Regent, pushing for promotion in Ryman League division north, stunned the premier division basement boys with a clinical display of finishing.

Aaron Condon and Josh Gould both scored twice and there were also goals for Phil Kelly and Harry McDonald.

Gould and Condon put the North Road side two-up and although Charlie Collins halved the deficit, Kelly restored the two-goal advantage and made it 3-1.

Met Police scored again through Dan Summers but Condon, Gould and McDonald responded with further goals during an explosive contest at the Imber Court Sports Centre.

The result continues Regent’s brilliant run of form, which included six straight wins before Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Heybridge Swifts.

Met Police, in contrast, have only won two games all season and not tasted victory once at their home ground.

“It was an excellent performance,” said delighted boss James Webster.

“We look like we’re going to score every time we go forward at the moment.

“We played so well in the first half and couldn’t believe it when we went in at the break all-square at 2-2.

“However, we told the boys that if they kept playing the same way more goals would follow and that’s exactly what happened.

“If anything, they played even better after the break.

“It was a big game for us and everyone was buzzing afterwards.

“It’s great for the boys and our fantastic supporters and really important for the club, given the financial benefits of making progress.

“Met Police may be bottom of the table but they’re still a premier division side, so it was a real achievement to not only win but win so comfortably.”

Condon’s brace took his tally for the season to 18 goals.

Unfortuntately, it was not such a good day for MALDON AND TIPTREE, HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS or WITHAM TOWN.

Maldon, top of division north, bowed out after a 2-0 defeat at Billericay Town.

Ricky Sappleton scored both goals for the premier division side and both in the first half.

Swifts were defeated 1-0 at Kings Langley, of the Evo-Stik Southern League premier division, after conceding from a 65th-minute penalty.

Witham also lost 1-0, with their Trophy exit coming at Spartan South Midlands League premier division side Biggleswade Town.

The only goal was an unfortunate own goal, scored by Pat Ahern in the 27th minute.
