BURNHAM'S Danny Buchan had a confident first outing when riding a Stock 1000cc Kawasaki for the Tech Solutions Pedercini team at the Jerez circuit in Spain.

In a one-off ride at the last meeting of the 2016 World Superbike Series, he acquitted himself well at a circuit he has never raced on before and only ever visited on a track day as a junior.

In free practice, he managed to set a time to gain a sixth best position.

However, after some mechanical adjustments to the bike, he could only qualify in 16th.

As the lights went out, he got off to a good start and, at the end of lap one, was in 14th place which he held until lap three.

Vying for position with Mantovani and Staring, he gained another place on lap four, holding position until the end of lap seven.

Andreozzi and D’Annunzio then entered the fray and, on lap eight, Buchan was demoted to 15th.

However, on lap 11, he gained another place.

Battling with Tessels and Moser, he held on for another lap but finally took the chequered flag in a creditable 15th position.

“I felt comfortable from the off in testing at Cartagena and my times were really good,” said Buchan.

“At Jerez in FP1 we managed to get P6 but we still needed more adjustments to the bike and electronics.

"In FP2 we had front-end problems which lost us some time and, unfortunately, this affected qualifying, so we could only get into 16th place, even though I took 0.900sec off my previous best lap time.

“Considering the situation and how little time I have had with the Tech Solutions Pedercini team and a new bike on a new track, I'm quite pleased with 15th place against some very experienced riders.

"However, I'm confident I can improve, given more time with the team.

"I have several options to consider for 2017 and we will talk to everyone concerned and decide what is the best overall package. Roll on next season."
