MALDON Golf Club's final singles stroke play competition of the men's season, the Lauder Quaich, saw Paul Nash securing victory.

The trophy was presented to the club by past captain Sandy Lauder in 2002 and is contested by all those members who have won either a monthly medal or a singles stroke play competition at Maldon during the year.

The winner this year was Nash with a net 70, securing victory on countback from Nick Rushen.

Rob Poynton was third with a net 72, Billy Mason fourth on net 74 on countback from Leon Griffiths, who took fifth also on net 74.

Mason won the prize for nearest-the-pin on the par three fifth/14th hole, while Pete Hawkins took the spoils for the closest second shot to the pin on the par four sixth/15th.

All the summer match play knockout competitions have been completed and it was a particularly good summer for the Mason family.

Darren Mason won the Club Singles Knockout, the Worcester Cup, by beating Steve Drake in the 36-hole final.

Darren, partnered by his son Billy, also won the betterball matchplay competition for the Pook Salvers as well as the foursomes knockout for the Eavery Bowl.

The runners-up in these two competitions were Paul Harris and Keith Bannister and Paul Jackson and Lenny Blagden respectively.

The Holland Shield, a greensomes knockout contest, was won by Bannister and Tim Hill, who beat Pete Hawkins and Martyn Cook in the final.
