CHARLES Harris continued his fine form to win the Key Trophy, at Maldon Golf Club.

Harris triumphed in the stroke play contest, which has a peculiar scoring format.

Each player's points total is calculated by deducting his stableford points from his nett medal score in the competition, held over three days.

Harris shot a fine seven-under-par net 64, scoring 43 stableford points to record a Key score of 21.

This resulted in a two-shot handicap cut, from 14 to 12.

Harris's nearest rival was Seniors' captain Eric Bane, who scored 27 Key points.

Peter Harper was third with 29, while Dave Vidler was fourth on countback from Christos Ryan after both players scored 31.

The traditional Sunday prizes for nearest the pin went to Steve Lawrence on the par three fifth/14th hole and Will Gregory for the closest second shot to the par four sixth/15th.

The Key Trophy was also the final qualifying competition for Maldon GC's annual Order of Merit, where the golfer of the year wins the Tangent Trophy.

With four players still in contention going into the final competition, it was appropriate that the season-long league leader, two handicapper Billy Mason, secured the title by finishing ahead of the other three contenders on the day.

Maldon GC ladies' section's Generation Trophy was won by Lady Captain Mary King.

Sue Gardiner was second, while Val Rayner was third.
