BOXER Jack Martin won a senior elite southern area title at Bethnal Green's famous York Hall.
The 22-year-old, a member of the new Maldon Boxing Academy, defeated Ralphy Ibrahim, from Hoddesdon Boxing Club.
He came away with a unanimous victory and admitted he was "absolutely buzzing" after the under-69kgs (welterweight) success.
"When I found out I had the opportunity to fight for this title I only had four weeks to prepare," said elite amateur Martin, who lives in Southminster and is a former pupil at St Peter's High School, in Burnham.
"The person I fought has also represented England so I new it would be a very tough fight.
"He was an awkward southpaw but I took control of the centre of the ring and landed the cleaner punches, boxed clever and came away with a unanimous victory.
"I was absolutely buzzing after I heard my name called out as champion.
"It makes all the hard work in the gym and all the sacrifices outside the ring worth it."
