TWENTY-NINE men contested the midweek stableford and continued to cut their handicaps at Burnham Golf Club.

Simon Hallett had a great round and came in with 41 points to claim first place, followed by Martyn Scott (39) and Simon Orrin (38), on countback from John Hutton.

The men’s Tankard event took place on Sunday and there was plenty of good scoring from the 47 entrants.

Division one was won by Alan Glass (64), followed by Martin Robinson (69), on countback from Simon Vidgeon.

Stuart Steele was fourth.

In division two, the winner was Fred Banfield (64).

Laurie Driscoll (69) was second and Michael Heal (70) third.

Thirty-seven ladies played the first round of the Challenge Trophy.

This is a stableford competition played over two weeks.

Round two is going to be very competitive, with 24 players with 30 to 36 points.

Jean Bailey won the first round with 36 points, followed by Hilary Skeens (35), on countback from Linda Stevens, Sue Frost, Jane Hull and Edna Watts.

Twenty-eight members played in the seniors' captain's away day at Burstead Golf Club.

Seamus McGee won with 36 points, on countback from second-placed Bob Willett.

Tom Harrison was third, with 35, on countback from Peter Hipsey and Dai Lester.

Ron Nethaway won both nearest the pins, on the fourth and 15th.

The main event of the weekend was the men’s Guest Day.

Thirty-six members invited guests to the day to play a nine-hole greensomes medal in the morning and 18 holes better ball stableford in the afternoon.

The front nine winners were John Reynolds and George Gordon (27.9) and the back nine winners John Hutton and brother (33.2).

Over 18 holes, the winners were Stephen Hull and Chris Symmons, with 46 points.

Graham Bowers and N McEvoy were second, with 43, on countback from Barry Fitch and Peter Adams.

Ron Redman and Phil Roberts were fourth and Tony Symmons and M Stein fifth.

Nearest the pins on the fifth was Micky Leonard, on the eighth and 11th Don Vidgeon and on the 15th Dick Seabright.

Nearest the pin second shot on the 18th was guest Mardy Amner and member Wilf White.

The cadets played for the Dennis Tyrell Trophy.

Charlie Turner was first, with 37 points.

Richard Smith was second, with 33, and Joey Takayama third, with 31.
