MALDON Croquet Club's Lakeside team travelled to Colchester to play a match in the East Anglian Croquet Federation Eastern Division.
The contest could not have been tighter, with Colchester winning nine games out of 18.
Colchester just pipped Maldon by 97 hoops to 96.
The Lakeside team consisted of captain Chris Joslin, Henry Hamber, Mary Burd and Peter Howe.
They all played very well away from home.
Lakeside's next game is against Chelmsford on Friday.
Meanwhile, Maldon's Pavilion team travelled to Chelmsford to play in the East Anglian Croquet Federation Eastern Division.
The overall result was 11-7 to Chelmsford and the hosts also won by 105 hoops to 88.
The matches consist of 16 single and two double games and the Pavilion team was captained by Richard Wallis, alongside Shirley Wallis, Al Brown and Joan Fairclough.
Next up for Pavilion is an away match at league leaders Southchurch.
