BURNHAM Golf Club are through to the Leslie F Wood Championship semi-finals.

They will play Romford at Chigwell on July 31, following their 10½-4½ win over Langdon Hills at Clacton.

Burnham made a sluggish start in the foursomes and only had a narrow lead of 3&2 at lunchtime.

But Dave Hallett and his team stormed out of the traps in the afternoon singles matches to secure a comfortable victory.

Burnham's midweek men played a match at Orsett.

It is a newly established fixture set up last year by then Orsett captain and former Burnham member Graham Button.

Burnham acquitted themselves well and secured two wins, two draws and two away losses, meaning it is all square for the return fixture at Burnham in September.

Burnham GC's Seniors had a very creditable 4-4 draw at Braintree GC, securing three wins, three losses and two halves.

The men played the July stableford with 47 entries, on a very windy day.

Results, division one: 1st Keith Wilsenham 37pts; 2nd Richard Corfield 36pts; 3rd Brian Roche 35pts OCB; 4th Peter Elliott 35pts.

Division two: 1st Jamie Pounds 36pts; 2nd Tim Hull 34pts; 3rd David Elphinstone 33pts.
