BURNHAM on Crouch Golf Club's ladies' Silver team enjoyed success at home against Chelmsford.

Chelmsford always field strong teams, so Burnham were delighted to win 3-2, with wins for Denise Howat, Jean Bailey and Sue Frost.

The seniors' team had an amazing victory against a strong Colchester side at Burnham, beating the visitors 8-0.

A hardy 17 members ventured out in the pouring rain to play in the Monthly Medal.

After nine holes, seven decided enough was enough but ten went on to the bitter end.

Four players - Peter Hipsey, Gerry Sizer, Harry Hastwell and Bob Willett - carded nett 77s, with Willett taking second place on countback, but the winner was Seamus McGee with a nett 72 in the awful conditions.

The Presidents Trophy saw a field of 51 men competing with first place going to Paul Russell with 39 points.

Tony Swanborough took second on countback from third-placed Graeme Davies after both had 38 points.

For the ladies, first place went to Claire Lewis with 34 points, while Denise Howat was second with 33 and third went to Jean Bailey.

The cadets had to contend with awful conditions and after ten holes, they were called in with storms stopping play. Charlie Turner was in the lead with 15 points.

The Friday evening competition saw lovely conditions, though, and a large number turned up for nine holes.

The format was white, yellow red being the order of play for the tees.

Cadets winner Turner had 14 points with a four for four on the seventh off the whites.

RESULTS: Ladies: Front nine: Mel Lewis 14pts; Back nine: Sue Evans 17pts. Men: Front nine: Gerry Brown 11pts; Back nine: David Elphinstone 18 pts on counback from John Culff.

The club also had a Clubbing Together event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the RNLI and the Rugby club.

There was a great turnout from all three organisations for a Sunday afternoon waltz.

Janet and Eugene Quinlan and Helen and Geoff Kimber were winners with 93 points.
