KEVIN Horlock believes Maldon and Tiptree are an attractive proposition for players after making his first two signings as the club’s manager.

The Jammers have drafted in striker Michael Salako and left-back MJ Kedman, as they make a bid for Ryman League division north glory next season.

Horlock, who was appointed as Steve Ball’s successor at Park Drive last month, says he is delighted he has kept the vast majority of the squad that finished the previous campaign so strongly.

And after adding Salako and Kedman to his ranks, the former Ipswich Town midfielder says plenty of players are keen to join them in their quest for the title.

Horlock said: “Maldon’s a top non-league club and with the alliance we have with Colchester United and the likes of Femi Akinwande and Ben Wyatt earning pro deals, I think we’re an attractive proposition.

“We’ve become the first option for players and that’s the pleasing thing; players want to come and play for Maldon.

“I would imagine that will probably be it at least until we get back but if someone special became available to help us achieve our aims, then we would obviously be interested.

“But we already have a lot of good players in this squad and it’s a really good position for us to be in – I can’t wait to get started.”

Horlock was pleased to strengthen his squad at both ends of the pitch, having brought in Salako and Kedman.

Salako, 21, is formerly of Tooting and Mitcham, Corinthian Casuals and Bowers and Pitsea while 20-year-old Kedman was previously an academy player at Sheffield United.

“Michael was available and he’s a young lad who’s hoping to do well and play at a higher level,” added Horlock.

“He’d heard about the Maldon and Tiptree venture with Colchester United.

“He’s big, strong and quick and scores goals and he’s also a great lad.

“When we met, we had a discussion and he came across very well.

“Ben Wyatt did extremely well last year for Maldon and earned himself a contract.

“MJ is coming in to try and do the same and he has a great pedigree.

“He’s come through the ranks at pro clubs at a high level and he ticks all of the boxes.

“He’s hungry to do well and he really wants to be a professional footballer.”

The Jammers have announced that they will host a Braintree Town XI in a pre-season friendly on Thursday, July 21.

Meanwhile, NJJ Group have been unveiled as Maldon’s new first-team kit sponsors for the new season.
