ALEX Dowsett set a new Maldon and District Cycling Club record at their time trial evening.

The former club member, who now races for Movistar, set a club record of 19 minutes one second on the ten TT course with an average of 31.2 miles per hour, to continue his blistering early-season form.

Dowsett was competing in Maldon and District CC's second joint 10 and 25TT evenings run on the E21/10 & E21/25 courses respectively.

Fastest Maldon rider was junior Harry Wood who continued his fine form with a time of 24m 21s.

Fastest lady was junior Issy Torrie of Chelmer CC with a time of 27m 22s.

On the 25 course, Veloschils Interbike's Neil Hughes was the fastest rider with a cracking time of 58m 21s.

The fastest Maldon rider was Hamish Hore who dipped under the hour mark with a time of 59m 31s.

Fastest lady on the 25 course was Maldon’s Lynda George with a time of 1h 27m 10s.

Maldon and District CC have thanked Gary Sanders who had checked the course earlier in the day and saw a large diesel spill on one of the corners, which he swiftly made safe for the riders later on by covering with cement dust.

They have also thanked the volunteer marshals and timekeepers for allowing this event to run.

Future evening events still need these places filled - visit the website or Facebook page for an up-to-date rota of the gaps that need filling.

Wednesday evening saw Maldon and District CC members Anthony Marsh and Mark Alsop battled it out in the Full Gas summer league, at the Lea Valley Velo Park.

Marsh put in a fine effort to finish fourth in the Category Four race while in the same race, Alsop spent the whole race doggedly fighting away tucked in the bunch.

Maldon and District CC have now started the regular Monday Led Rides.

Making the most of the good weather and light evenings, ten riders took part in the first event of the series.

They took part in their longest ride yet, covering 18 miles.

A leisurely route using cycle paths where possible was taken out of Maldon and Heybridge.

It continued on previously uncharted lanes, taking a circuit round Little Totham and Tolleshunt Major and then back via Chigborough Lane and Heybridge Basin, taking the Canal tow path back into Maldon.

These rides are ideal for anyone looking to get into cycling and a great way to join the club and get to know some familiar faces.
