Lee Hughes knows what style of football he wants his Burnham Ramblers team to be playing next year after becoming boss at Leslie Field.

The 50-year-old has been appointed as manager following the departure of Keith Wilson.

Hughes arrives at Ramblers after managing in the Essex Olympian League last season at Old Southendian and has an extensive portfolio of coaching experience, having worked for ten years within the Leyton Orient Academy as well as in the youth sections at other Football League clubs.

The new boss said he is pleased players from last year will be back on board and is also looking to add a few new faces, but he is very clear about how he will expect them to perform.

Hughes said: "I want us to play steady football and not be too open so we concede goals, but I was an attacking player and I like to play attacking football.

"I like my teams to get the ball on the floor, with full-backs pressing on and playing through the thirds.

"Working at professional academies like Charlton, Leyton Orient and Southend, I think that's inevitable that you'd want to play football in the right way and I want this team to play that way.

"We will play a high pressing game high up the pitch as I'm very attack minded and I want to see us getting the ball forward quickly with accuracy."

During his playing career, Hughes was a left-sided winger and centre forward, starting out as a trainee at Southend United and then in non-league with Aveley and Hornchurch in the Ryman League premier division before moving into coaching.

Hughes, who now works as a school teacher, added: "We had a meeting with the players from last year and that went really well.

"We have players who have committed and I also have some new players coming in.

"I was managing in the Essex Olympian League last year and there are players there who I know are more than good enough to make the step up.

"So they'll be coming on board as well, but we don't want to upset the balance of the squad from last year.

"There's special talent there and that's talent I know we can harness to build the side and then push on."

There will also be an open trials session held for new players at Leslie Field on June 25 from 10.30am and Ramblers' pre-season games start on July 16 with a home game against Catholic United, with another Essex Olympian League side, Leigh Ramblers, coming to Burnham on July 21.

There will then be a visit by Heybridge Swifts on July 23 and then a trip to Stansted on July 25.
