ANDI and Lisa Turner were loving the Loving Cup as they took victory at Burnham on Crouch Golf Club.

The bogey competition is for married couples and recently married Amy and Dave Hallett helped celebrate their matrimony by taking third spot behind last year’s winners Mick and Jo Hammond.

They put up a good defence of their title with a score of +2, but no-one could match the Turners' winning +4.

Meanwhile, Burnham's seniors recorded a memorable victory at Stoke by Nayland.

After three matches, they were 3-0 down but a win, a half and then three more victories resulted in a 4½-3½ victory.

The seniors also played a new competition, the Spring Trophy Medal and the debut winner was Martin Johnson who claimed victory on countback from Tom Harrison after both had nett 72s, while Bob Hyde was third on nett 73.

The Dr Ben Light - first played for in 1934 - was contested on a very windy Bank Holiday Monday.

The standard scratch reflected the difficult conditions and was reduced only for this medal competition.

First place went to Graham Bowers with a 71 nett, while Kevin Shanks was second on nett 73 and George Grimes took third from Dave Hallett on countback after both had nett 74.

RESULTS: Men's May Stableford: Division one: 1 Matt Hawksworth 39pts, 2 Scott Cashman 35pts (ocb), 3 Tony Wilkin 35pts (ocb), 4 Martin Johnson 35pts.

Division two: 1 Jamie Pounds 36pts, 2 Graeme Davies 35pts (ocb), 3 Roy Cotter 35pts.

Burnham's ladies had 40 players competing for the Starace Salver, but the winner was lady captain Jane Hull on 36 points from Cally Fearn, who returned 35 points and took second on countback from third-placed Claire Lewis.

The monthly supper match was held on Friday evening and had the theme of ‘hot and spicy’, with nine holes played with a Margarita stop-over served by the Hipseys and vice.

RESULTS: Front nine: Men: 1 Andy Turner 20pts, 2 Gordon Howat 18pts; Ladies: 1 Jane Hull 19pts, 2 Cally Fearn 17pts. Back nine: Men: 1 Roger Miles 18pts, 2 Ivan Milburn 17pts; Ladies: 1 Viv Locke 17pts, 2 Sue Frost 15 pts. Cadet prize: Charlie Turner.
