BURNHAM Hillside Bowls Club held their spring pairs competition on Monday.

Twenty-two teams took part and there were two leagues of 12 and 10 teams.

Each team played three games of eight ends.

There was also a raffle and £148 was raised for club funds.

To decide the eventual winners, a final was played by the two winning teams from each of the leagues and they were Shirley Sims and Nigel Barnes against Terry Pedrick and David Cable.

After eight ends, the triumphant winners were Pedrick and Cable, who were presented with the Blay Cup by the club’s president, Kevin Olley.

They thanked all those people involved, in particular competition secretaries Jeanette Wilson and Karen Hull.

Burnham played a home game against Wickford in an outdoor friendly over four mixed rinks and on Saturday they played another home game against Writtle.

This was over five mixed triples.

Both games were enjoyed by all and very successful for the Burnham sides as they won on both occasions with overall scores of 81-65 against Wickford and 90-74 against Writtle.
