BURNHAM Golf Club's Jubilee Cup men's team experienced mixed fortunes in their recent matches.

After suffering a narrow defeat at Rochford, they bounced back by winning 7-2 at last year’s quarter-finalists Harwich and Dovercourt, who had previously never lost a home match in the competition.

Eighteen players from the club's men's section were in action in the 60+ Trophy, which was a close competition.

Mick Clark was victorious on countback with 38 points, ahead of runner-up Alan Glass.

Countback was also needed to separate third-placed John Reynolds from fourth-placed Mel Aggus and Ron Redman, after the trio all finished on 37 points.

Burnham on Crouch's men were also in action in their regular friendly match at Boyce Hill.

They were beaten 6-2, meaning a deficit for the return leg in September.

Burnham on Crouch had 42 entries for the May Tankard competition.

Results, division one – 1st Mel Aggus 66 nett, 2nd Nic Price 68 nett, 3rd Tony Wilkin.

Division two – 1st Tim Hull 70 nett, 2nd Michael Fairhall 71 nett, OCB, 3rd Fred Banfield, OCB.

A total of 32 players turned out for the midweek medal.

Result: 1st Robin Stevens 68 nett, OCB, 2nd Julian Hull 68 nett OCB, 3rd Joe Carter 67 nett.

At the Mixed May Day Madness, eight teams of three played a Burnham Texas Scramble with a win for captain Roger, Jillean Hipsey and Cally Fearn.

A total of 32 ladies played for the White Elephant title.

Result: 1st Laura Whiteman 33pts OCB, 2nd Mary Graham 33pts OCB, 3rd Jane Hull 31pts OCB, 4th Heather Hornbrook 31pts OCB.

At Burnham on Crouch's ladies weekend guest day, there were 22 pairs in contention.

Burnham Golf Club's Ladies Bronze team lost 4&3 to Clacton, despite wins from Jillean Hipsey, Liz Tolhurst and Anne James.
