Burnham Ramblers boss Keith Wilson was delighted with his side’s progression in the Essex Senior League Challenge Cup.

They secured a 3-2 win against visiting Clapton on Tuesday night at Leslie Field in their quarter-final tie.

He said: “This is our only hope of getting some silverware this season so we are taking it seriously.

“If we were to win something this season it would be fantastic.

“I think the scoreline flattered them a little bit.

“We were 2-0 up and gave away a soft goal.

“We then controlled the second half, scored another but then gave away a late goal.

“I think we played fairly well, we are a young side but now we have a semi-final to look forward to.”

On Saturday, Ramblers battled to a 4-4 draw against Basildon United.

This followed a crushing 8-2 defeat against FC Romania the previous Wednesday.

Wilson said: “We’ve certainly been in the goals – that was 18 in our last two league outings.

“We did really well on Saturday considering we only had 12 players available.

“We rode our luck in the first ten to 15 minutes, they should have gone two or three up really.

“We were playing against a really strong wind in the first half so I was pleased that we went 2-0 up.

“We had five minutes of injury-time at the end of the half and they just grabbed a goal before the break.

“That was disappointing because I thought that if we had gone in 2-0 up then we could have gone on to win the game. And then, which is just our luck at the moment, the wind dropped right away in the second half.

“Then they go 4-3 in front and we did well to fight back and take the draw.

“I think we definitely deserved a point.”

And Saturday’s fixture has a familiar look to it as Ramblers have an Essex Senior League fixture against Tuesday night’s opponents, Clapton, at Leslie Field.

Wilson said: “Clapton, and ourselves, will know a lot about each other come the weekend.

“We owe them one because we didn’t do very well against them earlier in the season, losing 4-2.

“Saturday is back to our bread and butter in the league and barring the Romania defeat we have been doing really well with our results recently.”
