KEITH Wilson was left pleased as a late, late strike earned them a point.

Burnham Ramblers were trailing Sporting Bengal United 1-0 in their Essex Senior League match but Lee Scott popped up with an equaliser nine minutes into injury-time.

Wilson said: “It was a late goal.

“I didn’t have a stop watch but from twitter and posts I’ve read we had somewhere between ten and 12 minutes added on.

“But in the referee’s defence we had two injuries in the second half and made three substitutions, and Sporting made two as well.

“So if you start totting up the time then you can see where some of the extra came from.”

The game at Sporting was a return to action for Wilson’s side after an enforced break due to the weather.

Their last game had been the 2-0 win against Eton Manor on January 2.

The draw saw Ramblers record read only one lose in their last eight games.

The home side took the lead with 25 minutes to go in the game.

Ramblers came back well against Sporting but had difficulty finding a finishing touch.

However, Nicky Stubbs put the ball in the box and Scott beat the keeper to the ball to head home and earn Ramblers a share of the spoils.

Wilson said: “We didn’t play very well.

“But when they scored it seemed to wake us up.

“We then threw the kitchen sink at them but couldn’t score.

“We had two one-on-one situations but couldn’t make the most of them.

“But then Scott popped up with the equaliser.

“You have to be pleased with a point, though, especially when you equalise so late into the game.

“We haven’t played for a couple of weeks and I think it showed.

“We looked a bit rusty and off the pace.”

Ramblers match at Greenhouse Sports on Wednesday night was postponed because of the conditions.

This Saturday Burnham face another away trip to Southend Manor.

Wilson said: “We are in the laps of the Gods with the weather.

“But Southend have a new manager and he has brought in some new players, so I have heard.

“It’s not the best of places to go and play.

“It’s a very open ground on the front and it makes it difficult to get your tempo going. But we will go there and give it a good go.”
