BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson was left disappointed as the wet weather took its toll.

The Ramblers’ Essex Senior League game at Takeley on Saturday was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Burnham had come back after the Christmas break with a good 2-0 win over Eton Manor the previous weekend.

And Wilson had been hoping to take the momentum from that performance into the game against Takeley.

However, the weather stepped in and left the Leslie Field side kicking their heels.

Wilson said: “It was disappointing, especially as we have had no mid-week games as well.

“But you have to deal with it.

“It’s difficult to keep the boys ticking over but we trained on Saturday, Tuesday night and we will train tonight as well.

“And then we keep our fingers crossed for the weekend.

“It’s also disappointing as the postponement came after one of our best wins of the season.

“It would have been good to capitalise on that performance but it is what it is.

“There is not much we can do about it, we just have to carry on.”

This weekend they travel to Sporting Bengal United, who they beat 3-1 back in November.

But Wilson is just hoping to get the match on and then have a run of games to get his side back on the pitch.

Ramblers have lost only two of their last nine games in all competitions and Wilson just wants his players to get back in action.

He said: “After Saturday’s game we then have two midweek matches coming up.

“So hopefully we can get some games under our belts.

“But again, with the weather we are in the lap of the Gods.

“We are not at home again until the end of the month.

“I think if the match had been at our place on Saturday it would have gone ahead, but we have had a lot of rain.”

Wilson is still looking to bolster his squad for the second half of the season but the rain is also hampering his search for new players.

He added: “A player I had hoped to sign didn’t come off, which was disappointing.

“We are still on the lookout but the weather hasn’t helped either.

“There haven’t been any games, so we can’t look at anybody or bring anyone in to look at.”
