HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Jody Brown is convinced his side can pull clear of relegation danger this season.

The Scraley Road team remain second from bottom in the Ryman League north division, after back-to-back home defeats against Soham Town Rangers and Brightlingsea Regent.

They lost the first 3-1 before sliding to a 5-1 reverse at the hands of in-form Regent on Tuesday night.

Brown says he is realistic about his side’s predicament but can see light at the end of the tunnel.

And he feels sure that in terms of the bigger picture, they are heading in the right direction.

“We’re not going to win every week,” he said.

“Of course, I don’t want to lose and I’m gutted when things don’t go well.

“But I’m also realistic about our situation.

“When I took over, the team had only won once in ten matches.

“It was a losing dressing room.

“They were used to losing and that mindset isn’t going to change overnight.

“The only way we’re going to improve is by working hard.

“We’re fighting for our lives and need to knuckle down, to become harder to beat.

“But I maintain that we’re moving in the right direction.

“We’ve made additions and the players are responding well.

“I can’t say I’m enjoying it, because anyone would rather be winning than losing.

“But I’m not carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.

“I’m comfortable and confident that we’ll get out of this situation.

“To be completely honest, I haven’t even considered going down.

“I don’t think it’ll come to that and think we’ll get clear of danger.”

Swifts are away to Dereham Town on Saturday before visiting Harlow Town next Tuesday.
