Witham Town have lost another influential member of their squad, but manager Garry Kimble feels he has enough attacking options to cope with the fresh blow.

Just three weeks after seeing captain Lewis Godbold leave to join Heybridge Swifts, winger Danny Emmanuel has headed to another of Witham’s Ryman League division north rivals, Maldon and Tiptree.

It is the second time that Emmanuel has left to join Maldon in the last few months.

He headed to Park Drive over the summer before opting to come back to Witham at the start of the season and while Kimble admitted that it was a knock to lose a key member of his squad, he had no problem with Emmanuel taking up an attractive offer from the Jammers.

Kimble said: “Danny has gone to Maldon, which is a shame but they have come in with a great offer for him that he couldn’t turn down.

“I’ve no problem with him moving on because he has done us proud over the last few seasons and he made sure that he handled the move properly.

“The service that he has done for us has been fantastic and he would always be in my first-choice starting side.

“It’s a shame, however, we have options still at the club with Michael Osei, Ryan Charles and Shami Pedulu all able to play in wide positions with pace.

“So it’s not all doom and gloom but Danny has been a big player for us.

“It was just an offer of money that we couldn’t compete with as I’m not going to break the bank for any player.”

Witham, who saw their home game against Cray Wanderers postponed last weekend, are due to head to Phoenix Sports in Ryman League division north on Saturday.

However, along with Emmanuel, they will also travel without another member of their squad after seeing striker Scott Kemp drop down a level to join Thurlow Nunn League premier division side Haverhill Rovers.

Kemp scored the winner in Haverhill’s 1-0 win against Saffron Walden Town on Saturday, but the manner of his Witham departure had left Kimble with a sour taste.

He added: “Scott has gone to Haverhill and I have to say, I’m disappointed with how he left.

“Haverhill came in with an offer for him last week, but he told us that he was happy to stay at the club and he turned them down.

“He then clearly decided that he did want to go and I was disappointed with the way that it went.

“He played for us on the Tuesday (against Great Wakering Rovers) and then on the Wednesday, Haverhill were putting on Twitter that he had signed for them.

“He didn’t come to training on Thursday and I then got a text from him on Friday saying that he was leaving.

“He didn’t call me to tell me, he just left me a text and then went and played for Haverhill and scored for them on Saturday.

“We haven’t released his papers so I don’t know how that stands, but I just don’t feel it was done in the right way and it’s left me feeling very disappointed.”
