DAVE Cookson celebrated a magnificent victory in the Tiptree Jobserve Bowls Club Men’s Championship Final.

True to form, Graham Heard sped into what appeared to be an unassailable lead before Cookson started to pare back the shot difference.

With Heard already having won the Handicap title against the same opponent earlier in the day, it appeared to the assembled crowd that a repeat performance was on the cards.

However, with Heard requiring only two shots for victory, Cookson put together a string of winning ends, culminating at 17-19 with a four shot winning salvo to take the title 21-19.

Cookson dedicated his improbable success to his late father, whose inherited woods he had played with, saying: “That’s one for the old man.”
