Danny Buchan secured two podium finishes at Oulton Park.

The 22-year-old, from Burnham on Crouch, riding for The Be Wiser Kawasaki team, not only finished third in race one and second in race two but also crossed the line in fourth place in race three at round nine of The MCE British Superbike Championship.

Buchan performed well in free practice and held fourth fastest throughout, circulating within 0.549sec off the leaders.

In qualifying he progressed into the final session with a time of 1:35.119sec only 0.65sec behind last year’s champion Shane Byrne.

This put him on the second row of the grid in fourth place for Saturday’s first Superbike race.

Buchan got a good start and made his way into third place, he was challenging James Ellison for second place but was unable to pass.

For race two on Sunday he started from the same grid position and held his ground after the opening lap, locked in a close battle for position with Dan Linfoot, Luke Mossey and James Ellison.

After initially dropping back to sixth, on lap nine Danny had caught and passed the group and secured third place.

Buchan pushed again in an effort to reduce the gap and, with only a few laps remaining, Shane Byrne’s PBM Kawasaki expired and allowed him to move up to second behind current series leader Josh Brookes riding the Milwaukee Yamaha.

Buchan was sixth on the grid for the final race of the day and got a reasonable start but lost ground after a few laps.

The safety car was deployed for an incident and as it exited the track he took advantage of the restart, timing it perfectly and passed several riders into third position.

Byrne then slipped underneath Buchan and demoted him to fourth place but securing the best results of his British Superbike career so far.

Buchan said: “I’m over the moon with my results.

“Everyone has worked really hard to help me to achieve these results this weekend and it’s been a tough year with some problems along the way.

“It’s a huge relief to have secured not one but two podiums.

“I must say a huge thank you to my family and all my personal sponsors who have continued to support me throughout the year and I just hope I am able to end the year on a high.”
