ON a glorious summer’s day Five Lakes members played for the Bentley Cup.

Three players returned 37 points, Graham Doherty (15) with Alan Garnett were just outside the main prizes, however, with a better back nine holes Neil Shinwell (8) claimed third place.

Second place went to club captain Roger Hyman (20) with 41 points.

However, with a fantastic 42 points, including 23 points on the back nine, Jack Garnett (4) was the winner of the Bentley Trophy for 2015.

Birdie twos were won by Graham Doherty and Frank Taylor on the fourth, Roger Hyman and Neil Shinwell on the eighth followed by a birdie on the 11th and an eagle on the par five 18th was Garnett.

There were two competitions for the seniors’ section.

The younger seniors played for the Reg Goodchild Trophy and the more mature seniors of 73 and above contested the Seniors’ Shield.

In warm, windy conditions, 25 seniors entered the stableford formats on the Lakes Course.

The younger seniors mastered the challenging conditions better with over half the field returning 30 points or better.

John Wareing, playing off 25, took top spot with 39 points.

Tony Tyler, playing off 14, was in second place on 35.

Twenty handicapper, Ronnie Colbert, with 34 points, took the Seniors’ Shield, coasting three points ahead of John Grant in second place.

Seniors’ Shield: 1 Ron Colbert 34 pts, 2 John Grant 31 pts, 3 Danny Murtagh 27 pts ocb, 4 David Swain 27 pts.

The nearest the pin competition was won by John Grant at both the 11th and 16th holes.
