THE Burnham on Crouch ladies’ section battled it out in their July Stableford.

More than 30 ladies played in the competition last Saturday and Thursday, the winner of which is also eligible to play in the Essex County Windfall trophy that takes place at Gosfield Lakes at the end of September.

Good weather helped many players to achieve good scores.

The overall and bronze division winner was Linda Stevens, who had an outstanding round scoring 40 points, far ahead of the rest of the field.

Results: 1 Linda Stevens 40 pts, 2 Shelagh Edwards 33pts ocb, 3 Jae Bray 33 pts, 4 Elaine Elphinstone 33 pts.

On a glorious sunny day the Men’s 36-hole competition was held with 45 taking part.

In the morning, Tony Swanborough and Gordon Howat were in the lead with scores of nett 68, closely followed by Stuart Steel and Dom Adams with nett 69.

As the heat continued into the afternoon most of the players returned higher scores but Howat maintained his form of the morning and returned a nett 69.

Steel returned a nett 72 and following a nett 71 in the morning Rob Hawksworth carded a nett 69 in the afternoon.

The leading afternoon scores were from Ivan Milburn and Bob Sullivan who carded scores of nett 68.

Final result: 1 Gordon Howat 68+69=137, 2 Rob Hawksworth 71+69=140, 3 Stuart Steele 69+72=141.

On Sunday, the Cadets played in the Ray Watkins Trophy in totally different conditions to the previous day. It was dull, overcast and windy.

George Stacey Stevens mastered the conditions, winning the competition with an excellent 39 points.

In second was Oliver Readon with 34 and Sam Gorringe was third on 32.

On Wednesday the Veteran’s Section hosted their guest day and 48 took part.

Results: 1 Geoff and Martin Walker (Badgemoor Park) 42 points ocb, 2 David Frost and Dennis Mason (Maldon) 42 points, 3 David Gregson and Malcolm Kelsey (Braintree) 41 points.
