MARCONI Sailing Club recently held their annual Long Distance Race in aid of charity.
The Steeple-based club, on the River Blackwater, welcomed over 70 entrants over the weekend of June 26-28 to take part in the East Coast Piers Race.
Following a Committee Boat start off the shore of the club the competitors were backed by a strong breeze which took them towards Bradwell on Sea and an onwards to the furthest point at Clacton.
Because of the strong winds the first boats completed the course in just over three hours.
This year’s race winners were Simon Northrop and Sam Van Barker, from Minnis Bay Sailing Club.
Prize-giving duties were undertaken by the Bishop of Bradwell, John Wraw.
Marconi holds the race to help raise funds for local charities The Cirdan Trust and Essex Air Ambulance.
