IN their final match of the season the Burnham Spartans under-ten side were nervously aware that a draw would mean they had gone through the Spring League unbeaten.

With the majority of the squad in their first season this would be quite an achievement.

They dominated the early stages of the game against Upland Rangers Royals.

The conditions suited the Spartans – cold, windy with heavy rain.

After seven minutes, Luke Jackson opened the scoring with a terrific shot which the Rangers keeper got a strong hand to but could only deflect the ball into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

After 12 minutes, captain Tom Foster ran in to score his first headed goal for the club.

Keeper Sam Szorny pulled off a save late in the half from close range.

After the break, Foster added a third and Jackson a fourth.

Rangers pulled a goal back when rare hesitation at the back led to a goal.

Two quality corners from Alan Cooper led to Foster and Jackson both completing their hat-tricks with simple strikes from close range.

As the final whistle Spartans had gone unbeaten and could look back on a great season – winning nine and drawing just one game.
