MALDON Golf Club contested the first round of the Leslie Wood Plate against Warley Park.

Ten singles matchplay games are played to decide this contest, five at home and five away.

The Maldon team, captained by former club captain Des Bastian, performed admirably but succumbed to a narrow 5½-4½ defeat.

Maldon’s County Seniors team played away against Forrester Park in the second round of the Seniors’ County Knockout competition.

Despite the points gained by sterling performances from Bill Guthrie, Tony Last and John Meakes, Maldon suffered an 8-3 defeat.

Maldon’s Jubilee Cup team played the second of their four league matches, away to Gosfield Lake.

Mike Kempen was the outstanding player for the away side, picking up Maldon’s solitary point in the singles, with Gosfield inflicting an emphatic 8-1 defeat.

The Maldon ladies’ section have also had a busy week, having hosted their Spring Meeting. A successful event was followed on Friday by the Ladies' past-Captains’ dinner.

Maldon’s Seniors section continued their programme of friendly matches with a local derby at home to the seniors of Forrester Park.

A good morning’s golf was played in high winds and sunshine, interspersed with heavy showers.

The match ended with Maldon winning 5-3.
