A NEW trophy, donated by Maldon Golf Club captain Jim Culleton was contested for the very first time by the men’s section.

Named in honour of Culleton’s regular route to the club from his home in Chelmsford, the A12 Trophy is to be contested annually as a singles’ stableford event.

The inaugural winner, with 37 points, was Nick Rushen.

Second place went to Garth Milford on 36 points, while a countback on 35 saw David Follows just edge out vice-captain Terry Butcher in the battle for third place.

The weekly prize for the nearest-the-pin with the second shot to the par four sixth/15th hole went to committee chairman Tony Davis.

This week’s Saturday afternoon swindle was won by the team of Glenn Mann, Martyn Cook and Steve Paddon with a team score of 81 points in the best-two-out-of-three format.

Maldon’s seniors competed for the Veterans’ Cup.

This bogey competition is open to players aged 60 and over and was won this year by Dave Butcher with a score of +3.

Neil Clark was second on +2, with Dave Allen third, -1 on countback, and Mick Meager fourth.
