BURNHAM Ramblers manager Bertie Brayley has revealed the resesons behind his resignation.

The club were relegated from Ryman League division one north last week following Romford’s 5-1 victory against Barkingside.

The club are rock bottom of the division with only four league wins to their name so far this season with five games left.

However, it wasn’t dropping out of the league that made up Brayley’s mind to quit.

It was revealed at a special meeting, following the club’s AGM, on Monday evening that chairman William Hannan and secretary Shaun Pugh would be resigning from their roles at the Leslie Field club at the end of the season.

Hannan and Pugh will relinquish their roles at the club on May 31.

In a statement the manager said: “I am resigning as Burnham Ramblers manager with immediate effect due to the chairman Billy Hannan and club secretary Shaun Pugh resigning.

“I feel it is only fair for a new manager to take the remainder of the season’s games to prepare for next season’s campaign.

“I would like to wish everybody at the club the very best for the future and would also like to thank Billy and Shaun for this opportunity.”

Brayley had been prepared to carry on in the role as manager and had said after they fell out of the Ryman League that he would be preparing the side for next season.

However, he said: “Shaun and Billy have supported me through a very tough season and we did it together.

“With them standing down at the end of the season I decided not to continue and felt it was in the best interests of the club to go immediately.

“I am now going to take a little rest from the game and then will be putting my name in the hat for any managers’ jobs that might come up.”
