COMMONWEALTH Games time-trial champion Alex Dowsett has set a new date for his attempt on the UCI Hour Record.

Dowsett’s Movistar Team has announced that he will attempt to break the record at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on Saturday, May 2, at 2pm.

Dowsett, from Cock Clarks, had been scheduled to make an attempt on the record in London on February 27 but a broken collarbone sustained in January scuppered his challenge.

The UCI Hour Record attempt, still named The #PerfectHour, is supported by Movistar Team partners Canyon, Endura and Power2Max.

Extensive R&D and hours of testing have gone into creating an innovative setup that will help lay down a new marker.

Dowsett will be aiming to break the 52.491km record currently held by Rohan Dennis.

Dowsett said: “I’m thrilled to be back on track to attempt the #PerfectHour.

“Breaking my collarbone whilst in such good form was a real disappointment, but I healed 100 per cent and didn’t lose much form through it all. Manchester will be a fantastic location and it’ll be an honour for me to attempt the record on the same boards as Chris Boardman.”

Dowsett will ride the Speedmax WHR, a bike specifically created to break the record, as well as using a number of new parts and components developed using the very latest technology currently available.

The hour record has had a resurgence due to the UCI’s decision to change the rules about the permitted equipment and to allow more modern – and thus faster – bikes than in recent years.
