THE big competition this week at Burnham on Crouch was the final of the men’s Winter league on Sunday. After eight weeks of league play, with ten pairs in four leagues, a quarter-final and a semi-final it was time for the last match.

In a very close final brothers Rob and Matt Hawksworth scored 42 points to beat Simon Vidgeon and George Grimes on 41.

On Saturday, the men played the March monthly stableford.

Fifty-nine players braved the cold March weather.

Results: Division one: 1 Kevin Shanks 35 pts, 2 Don Vidgeon 34 pts ocb, 3 James Marchant 34 pts ocb, 4 Lewis Wilkin 34 pts ocb.

Division two: 1 Michael Pratt 36 pts, 2 Nigel Richardson 35 pts, 3 Vinny Lazell 32 pts.

The ladies played a Captain versus Vice Captain match play competition and the captain’s team won 7&5. The cadets had their first competition of the season, the Gill Stannard Trophy.

It was won by George Stacey-Stevens with 36 points with Rachel Clark second on 32.
