HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Cliff Akurang is ready to face AFC Sudbury at the weekend.

He was buoyed by his side’s 3-3 draw at Brentwood Town on Tuesday night that saw the hosts sit in fourth place in Ryman League division one north.

However, Swifts were leading 2-0 and then 3-1 before a late fightback from Brentwood saw them claim a point in injury-time.

And Swifts face another high-flying side in third-placed Sudbury on Saturday.

But Akurang’s side are now unbeaten in four matches after a 2-1 and 1-0 wins over Great Wakering Rovers and Waltham Abbey, respectively, and a 0-0 draw against Cheshunt.

The Swifts manager said: “To be honest the boys were really down in the changing room after Tuesday night’s result.

“I was more gutted for them than angry at giving up the lead.

“Brentwood were hanging on in the game and you have to give all credit to our lads who dominated most of the game.

“But in the end they stole it with a last-minute goal.

“For me we outplayed them but their guy did well to hit that late goal.”

But Akurang isn’t going to dwell on the fact the victory was snatched away on Tuesday night.

He is focusing on the good things and taking those forward to their match against Sudbury.

Akurang said: “We can take massive positives from the Brentwood game.

“We seem to be able to raise our game against the top sides and really should have won on Tuesday.

“The pleasing aspect was that we created so many clear-cut chances.

“And that stands us in good stead when we go to Sudbury.

“We have nothing to fear from the game and if we go there and perform like we did against Brentwood then we can get something from the game.”
