MALDON Cricket Club have boosted their side ahead of the new season with a double signing.

Australian all-rounder Robb McMillan will be the club’s overseas player/coach for the 2015 Two Counties Championship division one season.

Also top order batsman Freddie Clark has rejoined the club after spells at Hatfield Peverel and, most recently, Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club.

McMillan replaces Jamie Glenn as the club’s overseas player.

Glenn spent three successful seasons with Maldon, becoming one of the leading all-rounders in division one.

Glenn has decided to remain in New Zealand for the upcoming English season, meaning the club has signed McMillan in his place.

Maldon Captain Martyn Coker said: “The entire club is sad to see Jamie not return for a fourth season with us. He became a huge part of the club, both on and off the pitch.

“We would like to wish him all the best as he returns to New Zealand.”

McMillan, 23, is an off-spin bowling all-rounder from Tasmania, Australia, and has represented his home state throughout the youth age groups, up to Under-19 level.

McMillan has excelled for his home club, South Hobart Sandy Bay, and has been a regular fixture in their side since the age of 17. This achievement is particularly impressive, when during this time he has kept his place in the side alongside full Australian internationals Travis Burt, Xavier Doherty, Alex Doolan and George Bailey, who led Australia to victory over England in their opening match of 2015 World Cup on February 14.

Coker said: “We are pleased to welcome Robb to the club.

“He has an excellent record for a player of his age, and we are looking forward to him arriving in the country in April.” McMillan already has experiences of English conditions after spending the 2014 season playing in the Huddersfield league for Thongsbridge.

During his stay in Yorkshire, McMillan scored 581 runs at an average of 31 while adding 48 wickets at an impressive average of 16.

Maldon are also pleased that Clark has returned to the fold.

Clark, a 21 year old top-order batsman and opening bowler, played for Maldon during the 2007 season.

Coker said: “I am very happy that Freddie is back with the club.

“He is someone I have known since his initial time with the club, in 2007, and he can add huge quality to the side with both bat and ball.

“The entire club is pleased Freddie is part of the Maldon family again.”

Maldon start their 2015 Two Counties Championship division one campaign at Drapers Farm on April 18, when they will play host to Sudbury.
