Heybridge Swifts manager Cliff Akurang believes it was vital they didn’t lose against Cheshunt.

Swifts battled to a 0-0 Ryman League division one north draw against their visitors at Scraley Road on Saturday.

Cheshunt were a place below Swifts and a win for them would have meant a slide down the table for Akurang’s side in what has become a very tight battle to remain out of the relegation zone.

The Heybridge manager said: “It was of major importance to get a point against Cheshunt.

“We have hit a bit of a sticky patch at the moment in playing teams below us in the league. We have come unstuck a couple of times so it was vital that we didn’t let Cheshunt get above us.

“It’s all about not giving up any points by any means possible.”

This weekend Swifts travel to tenth place Ware and Akurang is hoping for a professional performance from his side.

He said: “I would like to see a solid performance against Ware.

“If we play like we did against Harlow then we are a match for any side in the league. We just need to get into good habits.

“We will approach the game in a confident manner and I am sure the players will approach it in a professional manner.

“Hopefully we can do that and pick up as many points as we possibly can.”
