HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Cliff Akurang hailed his side’s character after their victory at Harlow Town.

Swifts secured a 3-2 victory inflicting the Hawks’ first Ryman League division one north home defeat of the season last Saturday.

Heybridge went behind twice in the match but fought back to earn the three points and back-to-back wins following their 4-3 win at Aveley two weeks ago.

The only blight on the performance was a late red card for skipper Danny Barber.

Akurang said: “It was a fantastic performance to go there and defeat them on their home ground for the first time this season.

“I couldn’t have asked any more from them.

“It was a massive credit to their character that they came back after going behind for the second time.

“The could have been forgiven for giving up against the leaders.

“We hadn’t played for a while but the 4-3 win against Aveley was still fresh in their minds and they knew that if they kept on fighting until the 90th minute they could get a win.”
