IT may be a tough-looking fixture at one of Ryman League division one north’s promotion favourites, but at least Heybridge Swifts can be pretty sure they’ll see action on Saturday.

Swifts were without a league game last weekend after a waterlogged Scraley Road pitch sunk any hopes of playing their scheduled clash against Waltham Abbey and allowing them to build on their dramatic win against Aveley in their previous outing.

They did arrange a friendly against Vanarama Conference South leaders Boreham Wood, though, with Billy Hunt scoring in a 1-1 draw, so managed to get a workout to stay fresh ahead of this Saturday’s trip to division one north high-flyers Harlow Town.

Swifts boss Cliff Akurang said: “Initially I was a bit disappointed not to get a (league) game because we want to keep playing, especially after a win like we had against Aveley to keep the momentum going.

“We did have a good run out against Boreham Wood, but it was good that most results went in our favour and no-one made up any ground on us.

“We do have a few games in hand on other sides now, but there are no easy games in this league and we still need to make sure we approach every one properly and get results from all those games in hand.”

The trip to Harlow is next up for Akurang’s side and he knows it will be a test for them as no-one has been to the Harlow Arena so far this season and beaten the Hawks on their artificial pitch in the league.

“One positive is that there shouldn’t be anything to put our game off this weekend, but it’s going to be tough,” added the Swifts manager.

“However, I’ll be interested to see where we are against the best in the league."
