HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Cliff Akurang is recovering after a rollercoaster victory against high-flying Aveley.

And Akurang is hoping their last-gasp injury-time 4-3 win will boost his side for the visit of Waltham Abbey this Saturday and will give the home fans something to cheer about again.

Two goals in the final six minutes saw Swifts secure a Ryman League division one north victory.

Akurang said: “To take the confidence from Saturday’s win into the game against Waltham Abbey would be ideal.

“It’s pleasing to have some home games – I haven’t had many since taking over as manager.

“The fans can be the 12th man to help push you on.

“And that was the case on Saturday – the fans drew the players on and it was fantastic.

“And hopefully it can be the same this weekend.”

Akurang added: “It was a bit of a rollercoaster.

“One moment you were up and the next you were down.

“The boys dug deep to get back in the game.

“They gave everything you want from a team.

“When the winning goal went in it was pure relief and pride in the boys.

“Especially as we hadn’t been playing that well.

“Aveley have been playing well and they are pushing for the play-offs.

“They beat Chatham Town 5-0 the other week.

“And for us to turn it around on a side that is flying high is amazing for our team.

“We are a new team now and a lot of the players haven’t played together before as well “Joseph O’Cearuill and James Fitchett played really well and Billy Hunt took his goals well.”
