BURNHAM Ramblers boss Bertie Brayley is not overawed by taking on the leaders this Saturday.

The Ramblers travel to Harlow Town who sit on top of the Ryman League division one north table and Brayley insists his side will be able to compete.

However, he was frustrated at the weekend when their match at Leslie Field against Waltham Abbey was lost to the wet weather.

The last action the Ramblers, who sit at the bottom of the division, saw was their 1-1 derby draw at Maldon and Tiptree on New Year’s Day.

The Ramblers went 1-0 down to a first-half own goal from Lee Pleasance but fought back in the second to grab a point with a strike from Andrea Mantovani.

Brayley said: “It was disappointing that the game against Waltham Abbey was off on Saturday.

“It is very rare that we have games off here because the pitch is usually very good.

“But we have been beaten twice by the weather now.

“It was very frustrating because I wanted to carry the momentum we had built up in the second half against Maldon into the Abbey game.

“We finished that match strongly and we could have gone on and built on it.

“We have the talent in the club to go out there and beat sides. I keep telling the boys that we can do it.

“It frustrates me that we can go out and give such different performances from one week to another.”

This Saturday’s match is unlikely to be affected by the wet weather as Harlow play on an artifical pitch at their Elizabeth Way ground.

But, according to Brayley the artifical surface should not faze his players.

He said: “I don’t think that the artifical pitch will be a problem at Harlow.

“We train on a 3G pitch every week so we are used to it.

“The boys like playing on the 3G and that might be an advantage for us, it definitley won’t be a disadvantage.”

However, the Burnham manager knows they will probably be set for a difficult afternoon as they take on the leaders.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough game. We are playing the top team and they are there for a reason.

“Their manager, Danny Chapman, always puts out a well-drilled and organised side.

“Our coach Enrico Tiritera went to watch them in their 3-1 win against Great Wakering on Saturday as we didn’t have a game.

“And there are definitely areas in which we can hurt them if we play well.

“Teams from down the bottom of the division have gone there and taken points.

“We will go there and battle and have every chance of getting something from the game.”
