KEITH Wilson has admitted his departure from Heybridge Swifts was “on the cards”.

The Ryman League division one north side parted company with their manager this morning, after a committee meeting the previous night.

It came on the back of Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Wroxham, which saw Swifts drop to 20th, and was their 11th loss in 21 games.

“It’s been on the cards,” said Wilson, who had been left frustrated before the midweek match because of five late call-offs from players.

“The club had a meeting and that was that.

“I am disappointed but I understand their decision.

“Football is a results business and we haven’t been getting the results.

“I was told it was a rebuilding job at the club.

“I have had six months and wish I could have had a bit longer. But that’s football.

“I wish them all the best in the future and I would like to thank everyone at the club for their support.

“I hope they can get out of this situation and that they win on Saturday.”

Wilson took the reins in July, replacing former manager Jody Brown, who left to take charge at Ryman League premier division Grays Athletic.

Brown had guided the club into the play-offs last season, finishing third, but that team slowly disappeared during the summer, with a large number of player departures after Wilson’s arrival.

The former Burnham Ramblers boss was forced into a rebuilding job but that process came to an end this morning when he received a call from Swifts chairman Nick Bowyer.

Wilson says he is not going to rush into any decisions about his future within the sport.

He added: “Obviously I am disappointed but I am not going to be touting myself about for a new job.

“I am going to take a break from football, have Christmas, and if I miss it I will try to get myself back in somewhere.

“I have had a lot of good luck messages from players and people at Heybridge as well as from outside the club.”
