HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Keith Wilson believes his side have nothing to lose in the FA Trophy this weekend.

Ryman League division one north side Swifts travel to premier division side Lewes in the second qualifying round.

They earned their spot with a 4-1 victory at South Park in the last round.

Heybridge earned a 1-1 draw with a last-minute penalty against Thamesmead Town last Saturday and Wilson is looking forward to a break from league action.

Wilson said: “Lewes’ form has been picking up, they beat Harlow who are a good side and then won at Leatherhead last Saturday.

“But we go there with nothing to lose.

“No-one expects us to win, a Ryman One North side playing away at a Ryman Premier side.

“But, like at South Park, it is the perfect opportunity for the club and the players to make a statement.

“We can go there and play with the freedom of not having to earn league points.

“Lewes might underestimate us and we can surprise them. We will prepare well and have a game plan to play to. We know that if we all do our jobs well that we are capable of beating anyone on our day.”

Wilson has moved to strengthen his side, signing midfielders Sam Holloway, from Thurrock, and Jon Glowacki, from Grays Athletic, as well as Redbridge striker Dan Chambers.

Wilson said: “I think these players coming in will give us fresh impetus.

“We also have Mike Fitzgibbon coming back in, and that will be like having a new player as well.

“We have the ability and quality in the side and we just have to believe in ourselves.”
